Online Therapy

Receive therapy online from our Austin team

Online therapy in Austin is transforming the way psychologists help their patients, with good reason: in these anxiety-inducing times, online therapy connects people with the help they need in a safe, effective, and proven manner.

What is online therapy?

Online therapy simply is therapy delivered via a secure video connection instead of face-to-face. Accessing professional and individualized therapy has never been easier using your personal computer, laptop, phone, or tablet.

At the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin, we use a HIPAA-approved encrypted video stream so that your personal health information is always private. Our online therapy is the same cost, efficacy, and quality of service as a visit to our offices.

You can book an online therapy session now with the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin.

Why should I choose online therapy? Is it effective?

Online therapy is rapidly growing in popularity, especially with the concerns about Covid-19. It’s a safe treatment for anxiety, coupled with the comfort of being at home. Online therapy is also more convenient for people who are uncomfortable with visiting a psychologist’s office, living a long way from a suitable provider, and/or faced with busy schedules, mobility issues, or childcare responsibilities.

And yes, online therapy isn’t new or unproven. In this 2017 study, six researchers surveyed the research on online therapy or “telemental health care” and came to the following conclusion:

“Telemental health care can provide effective and adaptable solutions to the care of mental illnesses universally. While being comparable to in-person services, telemental health care is particularly advantageous and inexpensive through the use of current technologies and adaptable designs, especially in isolated communities.”

Do I need any special software or a fancy computer to do online therapy?

Not at all! If you can use your phone or computer to watch YouTube or Netflix, you can use it to receive online therapy. If you have any doubts, feel free to contact us with your questions – just let us know the make and model of your device.

Here are the steps:

  1. Book an appointment on our website.
  2. We will contact you with any follow-up questions and to set a time.
  3. Remember to clear the decks at home. Make sure your device is getting a good Internet connection to avoid problems. It’s helpful to be in a quiet space in which you can focus on your session, without outside distractions like a spouse, coworkers, kids, pets, or external noises like television or other background audio. You may want to use headphones with a microphone for the best audio quality.
  4. Be on time for your session so we can take care of any technical issues quickly.

Can I use insurance for online therapy?

Yes! Online therapy is covered by insurance. ATCA does not accept insurance directly, but we can help you claim reimbursement for online therapy from your insurance company.

What does online therapy look like at the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin?

Our online therapy sessions are just like the in-person anxiety therapy we offer, but without the “in person” part. Patients receive the same amount of time, attention, and care with one of our licensed, PhD-level therapists. ATCA online therapy connects you with proven, compassionate modalities that are built on years of research and practice. As you can see from our testimonials, our therapy sessions have helped many people, often even after just a few appointments.

During a one-on-one online therapy session, your conversation with the therapist will involve listening, feedback, and the use of proven therapeutic methods including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to assist you in moving beyond your feelings of anxiety and fear that may be keeping you from happiness, peace and satisfaction.

At the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin, our licensed psychologists bring decades of clinical experience in academic and professional settings to the table to help you solve your anxiety issues. We also strongly believe that understanding and empathy are essential to finding the most effective approach for a particular diagnosis.
