JESSE ARVIZU, PSY.D.
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
HE/HIM
Supervised by Jack Tsan, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin, where I work with adults whose lives have become limited by anxiety, fear, avoidance, trauma, or other patterns that are keeping them stuck. I especially enjoy exposure-based treatment â helping people gradually approach what fear has taught them to avoid and regain parts of life that have become smaller over time.
I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Adler University and completed my doctoral internship at the VA North Texas Health Care System, where I worked across inpatient psychiatry, residential and outpatient treatment, trauma care, and psychological assessment. My broader background includes Kâ12 schools, university counseling centers, community mental health, and work with first responders.
Before entering psychology, I spent seven years in the U.S. Navy. That experience remains an important part of who I am and gave me a lasting appreciation for the ways people adapt under pressure, rely on one another, and keep moving through periods of uncertainty and change.
My Treatment Philosophy
I want therapy to feel like a real conversation where you can be honest, feel understood, and make sense of the patterns that have kept you stuck. I also believe insight is most useful when it leads to something different outside the room.
When fear or anxiety is part of the picture, I often use exposure-based approaches to help identify the avoidance, compulsions, reassurance seeking, or other strategies that may be providing short-term relief while keeping the problem going. I sometimes compare anxiety to a smoke detector that cannot always tell burnt toast from a real fire. The goal is not necessarily to silence it, but to change how you respond when it goes off.
I also work with trauma and PTSD using evidence-based approaches including prolonged exposure and cognitive processing therapy. My style is warm, collaborative, and direct. I want you to feel genuinely understood, and I will also challenge you when fear, avoidance, or an old pattern is getting in the way of the life you want.
