  • ATCA Starts Anxiety Medication Collaboration with Resilient Mind

    Anxiety Medication and Psychiatry Services Compliment ATCA Offerings The Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin is pleased to announce a collaboration with a psychiatry practice, Resilient Mind Psychiatry of Austin, Texas. Resilient Mind’s Dr. Thetsu Mon brings an impressive set of skills to the table. Board certified in adult psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Mon has co-authored a number of clinical treatment publications and has worked with the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System and the University of Texas at Austin. This collaboration also makes it easier for ATCA clients to gain access to a psychiatrist if the circumstances makes it appropriate.   • ATCA PhDs Present at Anxiety and Depression Conference!

    Dr. Damer and Dr. Stout recently presented at the Anxiety and Depression 39th Annual Conference (ADAA) in Chicago, IL! The ADAA Annual Conference brings together more than 1,400 clinicians and researchers from all across the world to discuses improvements in treatment for anxiety , depression, and co-occurring disorders . Dr. Damer and Dr. Stout presented on the effectiveness of CBT group therapy.  They taught practitioners how to implement cognitive and behavioral techniques like cognitive restructuring, attention-training/ mindfulness techniques, and behavioral interventions in a group therapy format.  CBT group therapy is an affordable alternative to individual therapy, and offers a supporting environment for clients struggling with similar difficulties.  Dr. Damer and Dr. Stout have both implemented these techniques in the longstanding therapy group, “ Anxious in Austin .”

    We are excited to announce that the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin (ATCA) now provides Virtual Reality (VR) therapy , with the aim of improving exposure therapies for anxiety disorders. By incorporating Psious VR equipment into our services, we are able to assist our patients to acclimatize gently to anxiety-producing situations and eventually confront their fears in realistic scenarios. Stressful disorders like acrophobia, claustrophobia, fear of darkness, fear of dogs, fear of flying, fear of driving, fear of public speaking, OCD, and social anxiety can be productively and positively conquered in a controlled, risk-free, and cost-free environment. ATCA has set our VR technology into motion, at no additional cost to our clients. We are excited to start this form of exposure therapy to underline its effectiveness in new ways.   • Dr. Whitney Wheeler Joins ATCA!

    We are excited to welcome Dr. Whitney Wheeler to the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin! Dr. Wheeler graduated with a PhD in ​counseling psychology​ from the University of Kentucky. She is originally from North Texas, but grew up spending a lot of time in Austin. Since moving to the area, she has been enjoying the live music, museums, and exploring all the local restaurants the city has to offer. Dr. Wheeler has experience working with children, adolescents and young adults, and—as an aside—has a toddler of her own. While she likes to treat the full range of anxiety disorders , Dr. Wheeler has a special interest in seeing patients with co-morbid anxiety and depression, as well as working with anxiety related to trauma and PTSD .   • Welcome, Dr. Greeson!

    ACTA would like to welcome our newest member, postdoctoral fellow Dr. Janna Greeson ! She comes to us after completing her Ph.D. from UT and internship at UT’s Counseling and Mental Health Center. Dr. Greeson specializes in treating health anxiety and public speaking fears. She is adept at working with a wide range of clients, including both children and adults. Dr. Greeson is currently accepting new clients.
