- Dr. Irene Tobis Joins ATCA
Irene Tobis, a licensed psychologist with many years of experience treating OCD and related disorders in the Austin area, has joined the staff of the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin. Dr. Tobis is working with the clinic to develop a brief intensive treatment program for OCD, an innovative treatment option which will allow patients living with OCD to work intensively with trained clinicians for 6 days. The addition of Dr. Tobis to the staff will enable the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin to better serve the needs of the Austin community with a wide array of treatment options.

The Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin is now open in our new offices, at 8705 Shoal Creek Boulevard, Suite 108 in Austin. We are conveniently located near the junction of Mopac and 183. This larger location will allow us to better meet the needs of our patients as we grow our practice.

- Dr. Christine Leyva joins ATCA!
Welcome Dr. Leyva, who brings expertise in treating a full range of anxiety disorders, including anxiety related to self-esteem, relationships, and health issues such as chronic pain and chronic illness. She most recently worked as a behavioral health psychologist in inpatient medical settings at various rehabilitation hospitals and assisted living facilities in the Austin area. Prior to this, she served on staff as a primary care/behavioral health psychologist at the South Texas Veterans Healthcare system in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Leyva employs several evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness/Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her work.

Dr. Douglas is completing a postdoctoral fellowship with ATCA. He most recently completed a clinical internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center with an emphasis on the assessment and evidence-based treatment of PTSD. Dr. Douglas brings a great deal of experience in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and stress-related disorders to the practice. He will be continuing his work providing evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders, and will be able to offer specialized treatment for those struggling with PTSD.

- Dr. Vernig Joins the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin
We are pleased to announce that Peter M. Vernig, PhD will be joining the Anxiety Treatment Center of Austin as a postdoctoral fellow this October. Dr. Vernig is coming to us from Friends Hospital in Philadelphia, where he served as the Chief Psychology Intern. While at Friends, he specialized in treating patients with complex anxiety (such as anxiety disorders which co-occur with substance abuse or other mental illness), advanced differential diagnosis, and anger management. Dr. Vernig received his Ph.D. from Suffolk University in Boston, and has a wide range of experience treating anxiety and other disorders in a variety of settings. He will be available to start seeing patients in early October. Be sure to visit Dr. Vernig’s website for more information.
